Reader question: How should buyers read case packs and MOQs before placing a wholesale order?
Short answer: Convert every case pack into sellable units and cube, then compare the MOQ to your test budget and storage capacity.
Case packs vs. MOQs
A case pack is how many sellable units ship in one sealed carton. A minimum order quantity (MOQ) may be stated in cases or dollars. Both exist to keep picking and freight efficient for wholesale distribution—not to confuse buyers.
Worked example
Suppose a toy SKU ships 12 units per case and the MOQ is 4 cases. Your first buy is 48 units before you include freight or prep. If your store can only display 20 of those units comfortably, plan replenishment timing or choose a different SKU with a smaller case.
Planning checklist
- Units per case and cases per MOQ
- Shelf or bin space for a full case after open-stock fills the floor
- Cash required before expected sell-through
- Whether a mixed assortment is allowed on one purchase order (ask—options vary)
Wholesale toys and games
Toys and games often use fixed inner packs and age-graded assortments. Confirm the case configuration on inquiry rather than assuming a single-unit wholesale price applies to open stock.
