Create Moving Gear Designs
Lakeshore Turn & Learn Magnetic Gears DD939 gives children a simple way to design moving gear arrangements. The magnetic pieces attach to a suitable metal or magnetic surface, allowing children to reposition them until the gear teeth connect.
Once the gears are arranged, children turn one of the built-in handles to make the connected pieces rotate. Changing the location or number of gears creates new patterns and movement combinations.
22 Interchangeable Magnetic Gears
The set contains 22 sturdy plastic gears in two sizes. The pieces can be mixed and matched in a variety of arrangements, providing open-ended play without requiring a single fixed design.
Large gears measure approximately 3¾ inches. The combination of two sizes gives children more options when arranging their creations.
Hands-On Manual Operation
No batteries, charging, or electronic components are needed. Children create the movement themselves by turning the integrated handles.
This manual operation makes it easy to observe how motion transfers from one connected gear to another.
Designed for Home and Classroom Activities
The set is recommended for ages 3 to 8 and preschool through third grade. It can be used for independent exploration, shared classroom activities, learning centers, or supervised play at home. Lakeshore does not provide an official player count.
Magnetic Surface Required
The gears must be placed on a compatible magnetic surface. A Lakeshore magnetic write-and-wipe board may be used, but the board is not included and is sold separately.
Not every stainless-steel appliance or metal-looking surface is magnetic. Test the intended surface before use.
